SAIRA is a non profit entity, teaching less privileged young adults living in emerging hospitality neighborhoods, the skills needed to be able to work in luxury hotels. These individuals often have not set foot inside a hotel and therefore overestimate the obtainable mix of emotional and cultural intelligence one requires to establish a career in hospitality. Using content from Cornell’s Hotel School curriculum as well as a blend of current industry feedback and personal experience, students are immersed in hospitality with the goal of finding an entry-level position upon graduation, from which they can then begin to build their career in hospitality.
In November 2015, SAIRA completed a six-week pilot program in downtown Los Angeles graduating four students of 18 years old, each of whom received scores of 80% or higher in the their final assessments. SAIRA is currently in the process of placing these students in one of the many luxury hotels in Los Angeles’ emerging downtown hotel market.
